Lesson Information

All classes are taken by one or both of the principals, ensuring consistency of teaching.

Children’s Classes

- Baby Class (2 ½ years – 4 years).

Ballet and Tap (30 minutes long).

Structured Ballet with nursery rhymes, dancing with dollies and other short rhymes.

In Baby Class children learn the basic steps of ballet and tap to develop a good foundation.

- Pre-Primary (4 – 5 years).

Ballet, Modern Jazz and Tap (50 minutes long).

Structured Tap covers all the basic steps. This lesson is more formally structured than the Baby Class but with an emphasis on fun.

Ballet – different aspects are covered each week, in a four week cycle.

Modern Jazz – here the children have fun working on suppleness.

- At 5 years old the classes are split into Ballet, Modern Jazz and Tap. Many children study all three disciplines although some choose Ballet or Modern Jazz and Tap.  Attending both classes is encouraged as this gives the children  more variety. The strength gained in Ballet helps in Modern Jazz. Modern Jazz promotes suppleness needed for Ballet. Tap helps to develop rhythm and timing in all subjects.

At this point the children begin to study the R.A.D Ballet syllabus, I.S.T.D. Modern Jazz syllabus and I.S.T.D. Tap syllabus.

- Ballet classes are 1 hour long

- Modern Jazz and Tap classes are between 1 and 1 hour 30 minutes long (depending on the grade and the number of students attending the class).

- A few children also have private lessons to further their study before participating in dancing competitions each Easter. This enables them to cover other subjects as well as their class subjects (30 minutes long)
