Alexandra Wright

Alex joined Mavlow School of Dance in 1993 at the age of 3, and showed real potential even in Baby Class. At the age of 6, she started a Private Lesson and won many Medals and Trophies at the Allied Easter Festival dancing competition in Kirkby and also the Allied North West Championships at the same venue. At the age of 8, when she was studying Grade 2 Ballet, she successfully auditioned for a place in the Royal Ballet Junior Associates Scheme in Manchester, and at the age of 10 she was one of only five out of twenty Junior Associates to successfully progress to the Mid-Associates Program. At the age of 11, she won a scholarship to the Hammond School in Chester to attend Full Time Dance Training alongside her academic studies.

At the age of 16, Alex auditioned for a place at the famous English National Ballet School in London, and was offered a place, which she took up in September 2006. After two years, Alex decided she wanted to cover more styles of dance, i.e. Modern Jazz and Tap etc, as she missed doing them after the variety of subjects she had covered at Hammond, and so she auditioned for a place at Laines Theatre Arts School in London.

Last we heard, Alex was beginning auditions for West End shows, watch this space for any more updates.

Sophie Wright

Sophie is Alex’s younger sister. She started at Mavlow School of Dance in 1995 at the age of 3. Sophie also started a Private Lesson at the age of 6, and was, like Alex, very successful, winning many Medals and Trophies. At the age of 11, Sophie won an assisted place to attend the Hammond School in Chester. Whilst still at Hammond, Sophie was in an episode of ITV’s long running series Heartbeat, playing the young version of an elderly dancer. She has also done some television advertising work, and last we heard was auditioning for professional shows.

Emily Lindesay

Emily joined Mavlow School of Dance in September 1992 at the age of 2 ½ years. She was very successful in examinations, gaining mostly Distinction, and at the age of 10 she started having Private Lessons. We also recommended that she audition for both the Royal Ballet School and the Royal Ballet Mid-Associates. She got into the Mid-Associates, joining Alex, who had already gained her place, and reached the second audition down in London for the Royal Ballet School. At the age of 12, Emily decided she wanted to commit to her dancing seriously and chose to join the Hammond School, but her continued her Private Lessons at Mavlow School of Dance until she was 14, winning many Medals and Trophies each year, with Ballet being her best subject in competitions and championships. In the end, due to Hammond commitments, she reluctantly had to stop her Private Lessons.

At the age of 16, Emily was offered a place at both English National Ballet and the Central School of Ballet, both in London. Emily chose the Central School of Ballet, as she felt that being a tall girl, her height would be more of an issue at English National Ballet. However at one year at the Central School, Emily felt she was being sidelined for parts in school productions due to her height, and decided that if it was a problem in college, it was probably going to be very difficult out in the world of dance, and made the difficult decision to give it all up and go back home to study A Levels. Emily is currently studying Dentistry at Sheffield University (can’t get a more differing career to dancing there!)
